What is WiSys Quick Pitch?

WiSys Quick Pitch is a research-focused student pitch competition that inspires Universities of Wisconsin students to consider the impact of their research and learn how to effectively communicate it to a general audience. Participants have three minutes to impress a panel of judges with their ability to explain the value of their research to society. The top presenters win cash prizes and secure a spot in the Quick Pitch State Final.

It’s not just for STEM students.

Research happens in more places than just a lab. Students are welcome to present research from any discipline including science, technology, social sciences, humanities, arts, education, business, etc.

All levels are welcome.

The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students. Both basic and applied research projects are welcome. Also, students can present research at any stage of development (it does not need to be finished).

You receive support and training.

Public speaking can be intimidating. That's why WiSys and our campuses provide training and support to craft your presentation. A training session is required to present.

Why should you participate?

Beyond the opportunity to compete for a cash prize and increase exposure for their research and/or innovative idea, you will:

  • Learn to communicate your findings in a way that is easy to understand.
  • Sharpen important communication and presentation skills.
  • Prepare for upcoming research presentations.

The WiSys Quick Pitch training and competition teaches you to make your projects accessible for all audiences and across disciplines, which can facilitate collaborations or prepare you for large research symposiums like Research in the Rotunda.
