WSTS 2019 Wrap-up

MENOMONIE—More than 200 students, faculty and staff attended the 12th annual WSTS at UW-Stout on July 22-23. Here are a few highlights from the two-day symposium.

KEYNOTE
The event included a keynote speech by Timm Boettcher, president/CEO of Realityworks, called “Bringing Ideas to Life by Working With Others.”

INNOVATORS OF THE YEAR
WiSys honored three with the Carl E. Gulbrandsen Innovator of the Year Award at an Innovation Awards Banquet. This year’s honorees include:

POSTER SYMPOSIUM WINNERS

  • 1st Place Poster: Kaitlyn Timmins  // UW-Platteville // “Protecting the Planets from Microbial Contamination” 
  • 2nd Place Poster: Nathanael Braukhoff, Austin Fitzgerald, Evan Majerus, Zhiwei Yang  // UW-Platteville // “Applying Predictive Models to Course Curriculums for Early Struggling Students”
  • 3rd Place Poster: Akanksha Gurtu  // UW-Green Bay // “Sustainable Conversion of Contaminated Water into Potable Water”

UW-STOUT
The event included great local participation by UW-Stout leaders. Chancellor Bob Meyer welcomed attendees and Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Patrick Guifoile provided a wrap-up talk.
