Recently, a $2 million donation was made to the environmental science education and research program at UW-La Crosse. The donation was made by The Paul Fleckenstein Trust, and the eventual $82 million College of Science and Health building will be named the Prairie Springs Science Center in honor of the endowment. The donation, which doubled the next highest donation given to UW-La Crosse, emanates from a trust established by a man named Paul Fleckenstein, who was life long supporter of environmental education and conservation programs.

Chancellor Joe Gow stated that the donation from Prairie Springs will make a monumental difference in the science and health program and extends his infinite gratitude towards the donors. Not only does the donation make a physical impact on the campus by helping to provide a new building, but an educational impact as well, allowing for continuous expansion in the field of scientific research for students at UW-La Crosse.
