INNOVATION IN MATERIALS AND MANUFACTURING

Lennon Rodgers, UW-Madison

Lennon Rodgers is the Director of the Grainger Engineering Design Innovation Lab at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, which includes a makerspace, machine shop and a set of interdisciplinary design programs.

Since March 2020 he has initiated multiple COVID-19 related design and manufacturing projects with UW Health, the UW-Madison College of Engineering, Midwest Prototyping, Delve and others. The focus was initially on a face shield (Badger Shield) but resulted in other projects and millions of units being made using their Open Source designs.

He earned his PhD and M.S. from MIT and B.S. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign all in mechanical engineering. Previously he worked at MIT as a Research Scientist and NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory as an engineer.
