Both Republican and Democratic legislators are coming together to publicly support a bill that would make research funding and invention commercialization more accessible to University of Wisconsin employees. The bill would replace a 45 day review by the UW System Board of Regents, which is typically required for private contracting, with a policy that manages potential conflicts of interest, allowing for a faster transition into research and development.
Ultimately, the bill would help increase UW employees' opportunities to pursue their research and innovations in a way that is more suitable to individual circumstances. The eventual result of this bill would amplify the growth of research and innovations rather than hinder explosive advancement opportunities.
